written an entire
book about these many thousands of passages in the Bible in which God blesses, causes, commands, or sanctions violence against human beings (Steve Wells, Drunk
with Blood: God's Killings in the Bible).
So let's say this movie is
about a woman whose life was shaped by love of her father; the making of the film Mary Poppins (as well as the
writing of the
book) is
about her coming to terms
with the truth
about personal love and death and all that.

of course the deception is that if joseph wanted to really help
with the truth he would

book about how the greeks and catholics are trying to de-judaise Our Saviour.
I always attributed this disconnect to my general frustrations
with modern evangelicalism — that it's been hijacked by the Republican Party, that it's in a perpetual state of defensiveness and «wartime» posturing, that it has closed itself off to science and independent thought, that it has lost sight of the message of Jesus regarding the Kingdom of God, that it has become commercialized and shallow — all the things we «emergers» like to

But now it has been published, and... and it turns out that while I agree
with him on
about 90 % of what he

book, I disagree
with him on the central point.
And regardless of what you believe
about the violence of God in Scripture, these
books will present you
with a new way of looking at things so that you no longer have to choose between accepting that God is violent or
writing off the Bible as hopelessly full of error.
It should be noted that the
book was essentially
written before September 11, and some last minute stitchings
about what the war on terrorism might mean for the world and American culture do not sit well
with the burden of his argument.
In the meantime, they live in a sort of self - imposed spiritual isolation — never telling people what they really believe
about various things, because those are the things they are going to
write about in their
book, and they are deathly afraid that anyone they share their beliefs
with will take them and
write their own
book about them before they can get THEIR
book finished.
During this break, not only did I read a lot of
books, but I thought a lot
about the proposal, I talked
with some people
about it, and I
wrote and
wrote and
wrote (
Writing is how I learn and how I think).
Those who
wrote them, being believers, theologians, and preachers themselves, were seeking to make God and godliness known to their original envisaged audience, and the first question to be asked
about each
book has to do
with what its writer saw it as saying and showing
about God himself.
Then they'll work you up to tell you
about the great rewards that god is teasing us
with if we do a good job in doing everything men
wrote in a
book 2000 years ago.
