In many ways, Kindle Worlds looks like you get the worst of both worlds — lose the community and feedback and audience and the chance to write exactly what you want without oversight or marketing concerns that you have when
you write fanfic, but totally lose rights to your work (so you don't even have the grey - area maybe - fair - use - maybe - not rights of a fanfic writer right now) and get far, far less money than you would trying to sell original works or public domain fic.
Honestly, the more reactions I see the more I think that those fanfic writers who want to make money by writing are already trying — by writing original fic alongside it, or sometimes by filing the serial numbers off their fanworks, or by
writing fanfic of public domain works.

It seems kind of ironic that Clare's career originally began with
writing fan fiction; she was well - known for her Harry Potter
fanfic and even some unfortunate resulting plagiarism accusations.
From what I can tell, this is basically nothing more than a
write - for - hire sort of contract but it does give folks the ability to actually try to get their

fanfic writer's perspective, these are essentially two different canons, and it will be interesting to see how Amazon treats material
written for one as opposed to the other.

This may well mark a turning point though for the
fanfic writing community, with the younger demographic of writers on Tumblr and Wattpad perhaps embracing such a venture, seeing it as both a form of revenue, and as a self - marketing vehicle used perhaps to attract big advances from «real» publishers.
