Native to Britain, the breed we know today is attributed to the kennels of Lord Tweedmouth during the 1860's when he combined
yellow flat coated dogs with Tweed Water Spaniels and was first exhibited in 1908.
Goldens used to be known as the «golden flat coat» due to their lineage from
the yellow Flat Coated Retriever.
In the Scottish Highlands, Lord Tweedmouth crossed
a yellow flat coated retriever with the Tweed water spaniel.
