yellow ochre light, cadmium red light, alizarin crimson, viridian green, and probably an umber, and that's it.

As for the overall color palette, Free People focused on grays, dark greens, burgundy and
light - blue shades, leaving it up to the cheerful pops of red
ochre and
yellow to revamp the entire collection.

I then move onto lightly tinting the white with my selected colours:

When I came here [to South Carolina] and beg [a] n studying with Jean Pilk, who had studied for years with Daniel Greene, [she] directed me to use a palette of Cadmium Red
light with
Yellow Ochre as a base.
These earlier paintings contain overlapping black and umber brushwork at vertical, horizontal, and diagonal angles, holding forth shimmers of
light — discreet underpinnings of
ochre and
yellow — peering between constructed sections.
The stripes have become broad bands as much as two feet wide (as in the majestic If), the edges are rough rather than clean - edged, the thick surfaces are built up of several layers of color (the black under the red bands of
Yellow Light; the grey underlying the
ochre of Signal) that add mystery and depth not unlike the pulsating sensation of Rothko's rectangular washes of color.
