The name fava, however, is a misnomer; it's actually made
using dried
yellow split
peas /
yellow pigeon
peas.

I've actually never had
yellow split
peas; I've always
used the green ones for split -
pea soup before.
Yellow pea protein powder is an excellent source of dietary protein for vegetarians and vegans that can not
use animal / milk based proteins.
If you like you can also
use red lentils, they also make a delicious similar soup, but I like the split
yellow peas best.
Feel free to improvise with other gluten - free grains (such as millet or amaranth) as the base,
use zucchini or
yellow squash strips in place of the green beans, and switch out the black beans for chickpeas or black - eyed
peas.

used just - picked snap
peas instead of spinach, and brown mustard seed instead of
yellow, since that's what I had.
