A recent study on the training of
Young Sportsmen and
Women in Europe conducted at UEFA's instigation found that the «Homegrown Player» rule may improve competitive balance and, by requiring a certain number of players to be trained by the clubs themselves or clubs in that
country, would act as an incentive for clubs to invest in their own youth development or buy homegrown players
from other clubs, thereby encouraging them to develop their own talent.
