28 Days Later, Shaun of the Dead and the remake of Dawn of the Dead were the best zombie films we'd seen in years, and I think everyone else should leave it alone for now.
This is literally one of the best
zombie films I have seen in a long time!

NEW YORK (AP)-- George Romero, whose classic «Night of the Living Dead» and other horror
films turned
zombie movies into social commentaries and who
saw his flesh - devouring undead spawn countless imitators, remakes and homages,
has died.
I
've seen many
zombie moves in my time, «Dawn of the Dead» and «Evil Dead» to name a couple, and all the
zombies in those
films want to do is eat you!
On the other hand, I really enjoyed
seeing the odd, feral - looking beauty Mireille Enos (of TV's «The Killing») as Pitt's on - screen wife; I wish she
had more to do in the
film than hunker onboard an aircraft carrier with their kids, hoping the
zombies won't learn how to swim.
In fact, it's not ever the worst
zombie film with Day of the Dead in the title that I
've ever
seen.

zombie slaughter in «Resident Evil: Retribution» (Sept. 14); Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña are Los Angeles cops in «End of Watch» (Sept. 21), which aims for a realistic look at inner - city law enforcement; Elizabeth Shue and Jennifer Lawrence are mother and daughter, discovering a horror - tinged secret in «House at the End of the Street» (Sept. 21); Karl Urban plays «Dredd» (Sept. 21), a helmeted avenger who cleans up the futuristic Mega City as its judge, jury and (wait for it...) executioner; In the animated «Hotel Transylvania,» Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) struggles to cope with his daughter's new non-vampire love interest (Sept. 28).
The
zombie baddies that are labeled «crazies» by the military are the result of biological warfare, and we
've seen this in
films like 28 Days Later.
«We went to
film school together in Melbourne,» Whannell reminisces, «and while everybody else was making esoteric movies about sand inspired by Yoko Ono, I
saw James» first project about
zombies and knew we
had a lot in common.
It's nice to
see someone utilizing creatures other than vampires, werewolves and
zombies for once, and the concept behind the gargoyles is admittedly clever, but the
film has absolutely no soul... or a decent story or performances, for that matter.
Shaun Of The Dead was a REAL
zombie film AND the funniest
film I
had ever
seen (until Hot Fuzz), Hot Fuzz totally changed the way I look at story arc, the way it escalated and escalated and then jumped into intense action was fantastic!
I
have seen hundreds of rip - offs, remakes or related
zombie films and yet I
have never
seen a more boring and poorly made
film as «Night of the Living Dead: Resurrection».
Anyway, brainiac Velma reads a diary and,
having never
seen The Evil Dead, I guess, yuk yuk, reads a few Latin passages out loud and promptly awakens a
zombie family of what the
film itself describes as «backwards pain - worshipping idiots.»
The style
has also changed,
seeing the
zombie outbreak in a faux documentary captured by a group of
film students.
The idea of a new indie
zombie drama, then, isn't necessarily one to make you froth at the mouth — even when it's based on a hit 2013 short
film, the intervening five years
have seen the genre done to undeath.
You think you
've seen all the
zombie films.
The
film's spectacular finale set in the fictional theme park Pacific Playland is one of the most thrilling action sequences involving
zombies that I
have seen in a long time when the
film was released in 2009.
I
saw this
film at a genre festival in Berlin last year and really enjoyed it, one of the most refreshingly original updates to the
zombie genre I
've seen in a while.
Inside jokes permeate the bulk of the scenes, and savvy
film buffs will love this movie on a level even higher than the casual viewer, especially those who
've seen the classic
zombie flicks like Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead (of course!)
In this case, you can
see Villafane
has created
zombies - from my favourite ever horror
film genre.
