Neuropathological refers to the study and diagnosis of diseases that affect the nervous system, particularly in relation to brain tissue. This field involves examining samples of brain tissue under a microscope to identify any abnormalities or changes associated with neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis and other conditions that affect the central nervous system. The term is derived from two Greek words: "neuro" meaning nerve, and "pathology," which refers to the study of diseases.
