Myocyte is a type of muscle cell found in skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscles. The term comes from the Greek words “myo” (muscle) and “cytos” (cell). Myocytes are responsible for generating force through contraction, which allows them to move or maintain their position within tissues. They contain numerous organelles that enable them to carry out this function effectively, including the nucleus, mitochondria, and sarcoplasmic reticulum.
