Term life insurance provides coverage for a specified period, usually 10, 20 or 30 years. It is less expensive than whole life insurance because it only covers the policyholder for a limited time. Whole life insurance, on the other hand, provides lifelong coverage and accumulates cash value over time that can be withdrawn or borrowed against.
