Roger Bilham of the University of Colorado, a longtime source of mine on earthquake threats, has generated a graph of the different nature of losses in rich and poor places (which also shows a repeat of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake coming in at 24,000 deaths and $ 500 billion in losses).
