A LIFE project entitled «Improvement of habitat management in the Special Protection Area of the Ebro Delta» was initiated in 1997 to enlarge the area occupied by natural habitats and to restore an ecological equilibrium between wetlands, lagoons and rice cultivations, mitigating the negative environmental impacts caused by the large use of pesticides and fertilizers.
