Our child seemed distressed not to have as firm of boundaries as before and his behavior was actually worse for weeks until we struck the right balance of incorporating the book's healthy focus on relationships with our child and family's need to still have time outs (although most are time ins now and we are doing fewer thanks to the book) for hitting and aggregious behavior.
