Leukaemia is a type of cancer that affects the body's blood cells. It causes abnormal cell growth in the bone marrow, which leads to an overproduction of white blood cells. These abnormal and excessive cells can crowd out healthy blood cells, making it difficult for the body to fight infections and deliver oxygen throughout the body.
