"Severe endometriosis" refers to a condition in which the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus (called the endometrium) grows outside of it. This can cause intense pain and discomfort during menstrual periods, as well as fertility problems. It is considered severe when there is widespread and deep penetration of the tissue in various areas of the body.
