When my class met, we could not
talk about trauma in the abstract; it had become a painful shared experience.
Instead of a predictable action - packed outcome though, this adaptation offers a larger message
about the trauma of war.
Trauma - based nonfiction is popular in this current moment, but what personal and professional costs are associated with
writing about trauma?
When this therapy was created, this meant moving your eyes back and forth (following the therapists finger) while
thinking about the trauma.
What we
know about trauma is that when a person is in distress, the brain is unable to process information as it does normally.
It is not enough, however, to just «inform» professionals
about trauma in our efforts to establish a trauma informed workforce.
Most patients agreed they were comfortable being
asked about trauma directly, or through screening questionnaires, and did not oppose the inclusion of trauma - related information in their medical record.
The contributors clearly describe the most current research
findings about trauma and crisis intervention and translate their knowledge into sound practice guidelines using interesting, in - depth case studies.
However, new understandings in developmental and neuroscience research have challenged popular
ideas about trauma and brain development during childhood.
