A
"drive letter" is a name given to a specific storage device, like a hard drive or a USB flash drive, so that you can easily access it on your computer. It's like a label or a shortcut that helps you identify and use different storage devices.

If you ever need to delete a mapped network drive, all you have to do is specify
the drive letter and add the / delete switch.
By default, the driver automatically mounts and assigns
drive letters to your Linux partitions, so you don't have to do anything extra.
Maybe it is still there and only lost
the drive letter.
It allows Windows to read Linux file systems natively, providing access to the file system via
a drive letter that any program can access.
If you have one hard drive separated into multiple partitions, each with their own
drive letter, this won't do anything.
DRIVE is
the drive letter you want to use and PATH is the full UNC path to the share.
If you choose
a Drive letter close to your regular drives, the drive letter mapping can be changed by adding a new drive to your system.
Note: Be sure to choose
a Drive letter like Z:.

If you still have a hard time finding
the drive letter than you need to use, diskpart comes to the rescue.
If you're getting a message telling you that Recycle Bin is corrupted, the error also provides you with
a drive letter where Recycle Bin is hosted.
You can also use this same basic process to assign a permanent
drive letter to a removable drive or remove a volume's drive letter and hide it.
Windows uses the Logical Disk Manager (LDM) database to store the volume types,
drive letters, and all of the other information, and it even replicates this database to every dynamic drive on your computer for backup.
If you do run into trouble, you can change
the drive letter back.
You can specify
a drive letter for the shared optical drive and have it automatically become mapped each time you log in.
Change directory to E: \ boot, where E: is your Windows 7 install DVD (check
the drive letter):

the drive letter where your Operating System is installed, which is usually the C: Drive.
When a computer runs the Windows Preinstallation Environment (WinPE) from a local drive, the EFI system partition, which contains the WinPE image (boot.wim), does not have
a drive letter assigned.
The storage space you created will appear as a standard drive under This PC, with the name and
drive letter you configured.
