Research shows that a chronic lack of sleep, or
getting poor quality sleep, increases the risk of disorders including high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, and obesity.
Common causes
of poor quality sleep include stress, lack of exercise, depression, alcohol consumption, environmental factors (like that neighbor with the «awesome» stereo, you know the one I mean), and a host of possible physical causes including sleep apnea.
Evidence increasingly suggests that insufficient or disturbed sleep is associated with metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes and obesity, and
addressing poor quality sleep should be a target for the prevention — and even treatment — of these disorders, say the authors of a Review, published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology journal.
