Specific humidity refers to the actual amount of water vapor present in the air. It tells us how much moisture is in the air regardless of the temperature or air pressure. So, it helps us understand how humid or dry the air feels.

Surface specific humidity has generally increased after 1976 in close association with higher temperatures over both land and ocean.
However, the model has a cold bias of about − 3 °C and also a dry bias of about 15 % of the
mean specific humidity.
However, the strength of the correlation
between specific humidity variations and the temperature variations at the same level appears to be strongly height dependent.
Therefore, the theoretical connection between surface temperature and
specific humidity becomes a challenging one above the boundary layer.
(For those still trying to keep up,
if specific humidity was constant, the measured values would be a straight vertical line going through the zero).
We investigated the magnitude and spatial extent of extreme temperature and
specific humidity events in the extra - tropical northern hemisphere.
