students in the early elementary grades, Hawkins was asked by a principal to develop an etiquette program that would help sixth graders prepare for middle school.
The California school board was scheduled to consider late last week adoption of a document that spells out the elements of teaching reading to
students in the early elementary grades.
Some critics have said such a suspension would result in major gaps in knowledge about student performance, including the progress of
students in early elementary grades, students learning English, students with disabilities and high school students.
