It's one of my favorite experiences for just looking
at sympathetic activation, fight or flight response, and just realizing you think you're in charge, but you're so not.
Indeed, the maximal increase in metabolic rate after water drinking corresponds to the maximal
sympathetic activation in previous studies (2, 3).
That is, ketogenic dieting and glycogen depletion increase exercise -
induced sympathetic activation and fat oxidation (eg, Jansson 1982, Langfort 1996, & Weltan 1998).
EGCG is a known inhibitor of the enzyme catechol O - methyltransferase (5), which degrades noradrenaline, and therefore EGCG can exert a regulatory effect
on sympathetic activation and lipolysis.
Or you might
experience sympathetic activation as «freeze» response, when the body withdraws to protect itself from the painful experience, which can show up as holding the breath, breathing in shallow or incomplete way, and overall difficulty with breathing.
Sympathetic activation causes focal adhesion signaling alteration in early compensated volume overload attributable to isolated mitral regurgitation in the dog.
Temporary physiological increase in blood pressure due to excitement - or more likely anxiety -
related sympathetic activation associated with veterinary visit.
We understood that
sympathetic activation fuels anxiety and rage, parasympathetic dominance causes shutdown and passive - aggressive behavior, flight responses spur fleeing the therapist's office, and fight responses lead to verbal or physical aggression or violence turned against the self.
With regard to the results presented here, this suggests a more refined interpretation
of sympathetic activation during social interaction (cf. Porges, 2009).
The authors state, «We believe a revision of the operative definition of OSA may be necessary, to reflect not simply the frequency of apneas and hypopneas, but the actual physiologic consequences that result — the severity of oxygen desaturation, sleep fragmentation, sleep deprivation and
sympathetic activation.
Perhaps
the sympathetic activation with water drinking involves osmoreceptive or sodium - sensitive afferent nerve fibers (21, 22).
Our data strongly suggest that the increase in metabolic rate with water is related to
sympathetic activation and increased stimulation of β - adrenergic receptors.
Stretched muscle fibers activate mechanoreceptors, which elicit cardiovascular adjustments through parasympathetic withdrawal and
sympathetic activation (6).
Understand how to respond to the extreme symptoms of trauma by determining if they are rooted in
sympathetic activation or parasympathetic withdrawal.
