I have visions of another sponsorship... this one to promote rail travel as having less environmental
impact than air travel.
I might wish for the return of the good old days — or, better, the re-invention of
lighter than air travel, something slower, airier, more scenic, yet still amid the clouds — though I'm sure, economic democrat that I am willy nilly, I wouldn't be able to afford it if the great airships did in fact make a comeback, just as I can't afford first class (a.k.a. the good old days).
Land travel can often be
cheaper than air travel when you factor in things like food, transport, accommodation and excursions too, all of which come part and parcel of certain train holiday packages.
Dear Cashing In, Can I use American AAdvantage miles to purchase anything
other than air travel, such as hotels, car rental, resorts, etc..
Even Bush's Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratories says, intercity passenger rail is 17 percent more
efficient than air travel and 21 percent more efficient than auto travel.
Would much rather
this than air travel.
