I have absolutely no
problem with religious practice, no matter how regimented, as long as it is volitional and self - imposed rather than demanded and imposed from authority.
1 Billion Muslims care, and we should have an obligation, as a civilized nation, to take
care with their religious practices so long as it doesn't not violate a tenet of our law.
In a few communities, women are treated poorly, but in the majority of communities, women are treated very well, and are responsible for many important things, especially having to
do with religious practice.
Now one response to this position may be that there is a difference between the kind of culturally specific moral beliefs
associated with religious practice, and universal moral obligations that can be said to govern everyone's conduct.
