One of the smallest beaches in the state, this solitary beach offers an expanse of
tidepools at low tide.
Please remember to keep an eye on the ocean, know if the tide is coming in or going out and explore
tidepool areas gently and safely.
But it's one of the best places in San Diego to meditate on waves crashing on the cliffs and
explore tidepools in the rocky reefs full of marine life.
At low tide, an incredible world
of tidepools becomes exposed in many areas, and the most amazing ones are in Malpais and north Santa Teresa.
The winter months are excellent
for tidepooling because afternoon low tides expose marine algae and invertebrates (November - February).
Of course these are best seen at low tide and the
best tidepool areas are: Tide pools are rocky pools located nearby the oceans that are filled with sea water.
As an alternative to noisy fireworks that can disturb them, the Haystack Rock Awareness Program provides interpreters and spotting scopes throughout the weekend to help visitors see Tufted Puffins and other birds, learn about
tidepool life and discover ways to protect all of these amazing creatures.
Silver Point: At the south end of Cannon Beach, you'll find rock formations at Silver Point
with tidepools and abundant bird life.
There are rocky outcroppings with great opportunities to explore
tidepools during low tide This is also a great place to be on the lookout for sea lions as some of their favorite rocks to rest upon are located on this peaceful beach.

Much of the coast is rocky, and even sandy beaches tend to have
rocky tidepool areas.

Two trails can be found for excellent hiking opportunities, the south trail leads to

Other tidepooling areas are located throughout the island but require backcountry camping to reach these areas.

ocean tidepools.

colourful tidepools where fascinating ocean creatures live.

Anemones, sea stars, urchins, limpets, periwinkles, chitons, barnacles, mussels, and many other beautiful species can be seen at numerous
pristine tidepool sites.
