Cut the cold butter into small cubes and
add them to the dry ingredients using the pulse function four or five times until you can spot no butter pieces that are larger than small peas.
OK... although it's many years after the original post... I made these last night w / a few variations: I swapped out 1/2 cp of ww flour for rolled oats, used an approximate amount of fresh chopped pineapple instead of the apples, used nonfat greek yogurt, forgot to cream the sugar with the butter and
just added it to the dry ingredients after I had «creamed» the butter and egg -LRB-?!)
Vanilla, Berry, and Bourbon: Mix 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste in with the buttermilk
before adding it to the dry ingredients, add 1 teaspoon to the filling, and use bourbon in place of the lemon.
After the cheese has been stirred in, combine the buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce and
add it to the dry ingredients.
Whisk the cream and extracts together and
add it to the dry ingredients.
A friend suggested coconut milk from a can so I tried that, and even chilled it before
adding it to the dry ingredients plus fat solid.
Break the vegan butter and shortening into chunks and
add them to the dry ingredients.
My food processor is too small, so I beat the eggs before
adding them to the dry ingredients (added with the electric mixer).
Just be sure to keep the fats very cold (but not frozen) before

Just whisk the wet ingredients by hand and

I would have done what you did, proofed the yeast before
adding it to the dry ingredients.
Add them to the dry ingredients and mix smooth.
When I tried it I used it 1:1 to replace the xanthan gum I had previously used when making the recipe, and
I added it to the dry ingredients.
I guessed and
added it to the dry ingredients before I added the wet mixture.
Use a whisk to blend it well and then
add it to the dry ingredients.
