The phrase
"precipitation amounts" refers to the quantity or amount of water, in the form of rain, snow, sleet, or hail, that falls from the atmosphere and reaches the ground. It helps us understand how much moisture is present in the air and how it affects weather conditions.
Full definition
The remainder of the seasons across the entire province brought normal to much above
normal precipitation amounts while fall brought record breaking precipitation to some southern areas of BC.
Pronounced long - term trends from 1900 to 2005 have been observed in
precipitation amount in some places: significantly wetter in eastern North and South America, northern Europe and northern and central Asia, but drier in the Sahel, southern Africa, the Mediterranean and southern Asia.
This is approximately twice as much as the average
precipitation amount for October in the climate standard period 1961 - 1990 (DWD, 2002).
These twelve - month running - mean time series of
precipitation amounts averaged over continental land areas and the European sub-regions include values from JRA - 55 and values available to date from ERA5, the reanalysis currently in production to supersede ERA - Interim.
They'll find that Antarctica's ice cap is the largest in the world and yet, based on
annual precipitation amounts, the continent might also be called the largest desert in the world.
As climate varies or changes, several direct influences
alter precipitation amount, intensity, frequency, and type (Trenberth et al. 2003; Trenberth 2011a).
The data show a bulls - eye of one
day precipitation amounts greater than 150 mm in the northern part of Kananaskis Provincial Park, which exceeds the estimated 100 year event for that location1.
Basic theory, climate model simulations and empirical evidence all confirm that warmer climates, owing to increased water vapour, lead to more intense precipitation events even when the total annual precipitation is reduced slightly, and with prospects for even stronger events when the
overall precipitation amounts increase.
(Top) Distribution of linear trends of annual land
precipitation amounts over the period 1901 to 2005 (% per century) and (middle) 1979 to 2005 (% per decade).
Precipitation amounts drop slightly in the summer months, but remain relatively high as the North American Monsoon takes hold sometime between June and August.
Contours are rainfall totals from the Canadian Precipitation Analysis, which combines weather model output with station measurements to estimate
regional precipitation amounts.
Data from the Canadian Precipitation Analysis produced by Environment Canada indicate a swath of such high
precipitation amounts running from Nordegg, AB south to near Crowsnest Pass, AB.
For instance, mean variance of MCA
winter precipitation amounts was more variable than those of the LIA for ensemble members 3 and 5 (p < 0.05).
In agreement with this speculation are climate projections suggesting increased flood magnitude in the future across the Southwest, despite reduced
mean precipitation amounts [4].
This longer predictability of soil water condition relies on the natural filtering effect of soils, which is explained by the accumulation of
precipitation amount rather than the individual precipitation event.
The first three stages of this project have been completed and include the release of the 1971 — 2000 and 1981 — 2010 climate maps as well as the release of monthly timeseries maps that detail monthly average temperatures and total
precipitation amounts across the province from 1950 through 2007.
However, at latitudes poleward of 40 ° in winter, positive correlations dominate as the water - holding capacity of the atmosphere
limits precipitation amounts in cold conditions and warm air advection in cyclonic storms is accompanied by precipitation.
The Mesonet system will collect measurements such as temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, surface pressure, soil moisture, soil temperature, solar radiation, and
precipitation amounts for rainfall and snow accumulation.
PRUDENCE RCM outputs showed non-linear relationships between mean maximum temperature and indices of drought and heatwave (Good et al., 2006), while changes in maximum 1 - day and 5 -
day precipitation amounts were systematically enhanced relative to changes in seasonal mean precipitation across many regions of Europe (Beniston et al., 2007).
Northeast BC experienced a dry winter with low snow packs and these conditions are revealed as below normal to much below
normal precipitation amounts in January and March (seasonal values are shown in Figure 3a).
Our analyses focused on projecting the possible range of temperature and
precipitation amounts in Montana, under our chosen greenhouse gas emission scenarios.
These glaciers are thus less sensitive to temperature shifts, but very sensitive to
precipitation amounts.
Weather variables — including wind speed and direction,
precipitation amounts and temperature — also affect the size of dead zones.
It is likely that there have been increases in the number of heavy precipitation events (e.g., 95th percentile) within many land regions, even in those where there has been a reduction in total
precipitation amount, consistent with a warming climate and observed significant increasing amounts of water vapour in the atmosphere.
I was very interested in getting
the precipitation amounts, locations and frequency, intensity, times, weird rains correct to get the runoff simulated.
Have students keep track of one or more aspects of their weather, such as daily high or low temperatures,
precipitation amounts, barometric reading, and whether it's sunny, cloudy, or wet.
Throughout September, total
precipitation amounts to 77 mm and rain is expected for a bit more than 7 days of the month.
