A
double boiler is a cooking tool made of two pots, where the smaller pot sits inside the larger one. It helps to heat food gently and evenly by using steam from boiling water in the larger pot to indirectly heat the smaller pot.

Place 2 inches of water in a stainless
steel double boiler, making sure that the water does not reach the bottom of the top pan.
If you don't want to wait that long, you can accomplish the same process in a day using a slow - cooker or
double boiler on the stove.
Combine all ingredients except walnuts in top
of double boiler over low heat, stirring frequently until melted and smooth.
Meanwhile, heat remaining chocolate chips and coffee in top of
double boiler over hot, not boiling, water.
Create a small
double boiler by filling a medium saucepan with about 2 inches of water and bringing it to a simmer.
To use your
homemade double boiler, add water to the pan and bring it to a simmer, then place the bowl on top and fill it with your ingredients as outlined above.
The recipe: In
double boiler combine 2 cups semi sweet choc chips, 1/2 unsweetened choc bar, 14oz sweetened condensed milk until melted.
It isn't very clear from the recipe method but doing this over a bain - marie /
double boiler worked well for me.
