Would 1/4 cocoa powder
work in this recipe for a chocolate variation (like in your coconut flour graham cracker recipe)?
You should be able to find cacao powder at most health food stores, but unsweetened cocoa powder would
work in this recipe too.
If you prefer to use an added sugar such as agave, maple syrup, or coconut nectar, it will increase the sugar content a bit but will
still work in the recipe.
But it feels like a lot of
extra work in a recipe to produce something that doesn't really make the final dish taste that much better.
The dried version is easier to keep on hand, but fresh orange zest
also works in recipes that specifically call for it.
Also, don't experiment with liquid sweeteners, such as maple syrup or honey, because their consistency just does
n't work in this recipe.
In my experience, toasted coconut blends easier but may not
work in this recipe with lemon, at least I haven't tried it.
It could
work in recipes calling for extra firm tofu if it is your only option, but you may be disappointed with the texture of the dish.
