"Gender pay" refers to the difference in the amount of money earned by men and women in the workplace. It highlights the gap between the average earnings of male and female employees, usually pointing out that women tend to earn less than men for performing similar jobs.

This is the first year of
gender pay gap reporting and is now an annual requirement by the same dates.
As longtime readers - or at least week - old readers - will remember from last week, we talked about the causes
of gender pay gaps.
Getting more women into senior roles is showing signs of gradual improvement, with companies
publishing gender pay reports to highlight how much they pay each sex on average.

about gender pay gaps, fat cat bonuses and collapsing corporations are rife, leading us to believe that there's not much we can do about our salaries.

And there's an argument that companies with more women in senior leadership have lower
gender pay disparities throughout their companies.
The corresponding
mean gender pay gap figures are 7 per cent, 9 per cent and 11 per cent respectively.
The current
overall gender pay gap between men and women stands at 18 per cent, but in education it is even wider, at 27 per cent.
If a workforce has a particularly
high gender pay gap, this can indicate there may be a number of issues that need dealing with.
We recognise that the pay gap won't disappear overnight but we look forward to seeing a
lower gender pay gap in a year's time.
This huge gap isn't just
because gender pay gaps are pervasive across all sectors of the American economy, though they certainly are.
Of course this also means that almost 64 % of the
national gender pay gap can not be explained by any of these factors.
Now that compliant companies have published their
first gender pay gap data snapshot, the focus turns to why the pay gap persists.
The statutory reports show that there is a
substantial gender pay gap in the education sector, and that it is far higher than many other sectors.
The government has also recently published

In the report, the elite firm says it's «confident» it pays men and women fairly for equal roles — so why the

Though an initial scan of the figures produces stark results, i.e. very
high gender pay gaps, thankfully the data is more nuanced than you might expect.
Employers have one year to release the data, but we expect those with
low gender pay gaps to publish early.
This means that
gender pay gap information will be publicly available to everyone, including customers, employees, and future recruits.
Blocking men from taking on less hours has implications
for gender pay inequality and organisation agility.
Hollywood stars including Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller and Emma Watson have declared their support for Jennifer Lawrence's essay on
gender pay inequality in the film industry.
Further, this open salary tier system can be an invaluable tool for
reducing gender pay inequities.
Of particular note is a resolution seeking a report on
gender pay equity — timely, given that the U.S. Department of Labor recently accused the company of «systematic compensation disparities against women.»
In April, companies with more than 250 employees will have to
reveal gender pay disparities.
